One of the pieces to the puzzle of life is how to manage our time. If we don’t manage our time wisely we wind up spinning our wheels and getting nowhere.
Is it possible to be more productive by doing less? I think so! I would have to say that sometimes we are so busy "doing" that we aren't actually doing anything. We are going through the motions while not really getting anything done and not enjoying what we are doing.
Sometimes the best idea is to sit back and relax and take it all in. No one wants life to fly by while we are “doing things” but not really being a part of the things. There are a lot of times that I feel as though each day the never ending to-do list gets longer and longer and the days shorter and shorter.
With little ones in tow it feels like the days turn to weeks and to months and to years even quicker than they used to. While I know just as well as anyone else that if we sit back and do nothing…nothing will get done, we should plan to have a day here and there of “nothing” where we can enjoy the day - enjoy the moments and really take it all in.
Enjoy it without the to do list or the endless pings from our phones of reminders of what needs to be done next. Take it all in and smile at the little things. Watch the kids be delighted by things that we forget to look at because we are so busy that we can’t look away from the next “to do item”. As the saying goes “stop and smell the roses”!
Then after you take some time to take it all in and relax your mind, take some time at the beginning of the month to think through any special events that are coming up throughout the month and plan in advance so that there are no surprises. Make a list of any gifts, cards, food that is needed for the events so you have no last minutes rushing to the store. Then at the beginning of each week, review your upcoming appointments, think through the kids schedules and try to plan out your meals and fitness routine as best as possible. I know that for me, knowing what the upcoming week will include is useful and it is especially helpful to have our meals planned in advance.
Honestly, not every week turns out as planned, however it definitely lessens the stress load when the plan is at least thought out and put on paper!
Some ideas for family planners are below. There are so many out there, take a look at the different styles and see which works best for your lifestyle.
